The "Best" Camera - "Sad" & "Old and Tired Sad"

During my wanderings in October, a couple times I found myself just walking around the town while my friend got some work done. I didn't carry my "real" camera w/backpack and lenses on those walks, but I did see things I'd like to photograph. In those situations, I pulled out my "best" camera, the one I had with me, my old iPhone, Here is one such photo as color and then black & white.

The Sand Project, Part 1 - iPhone

I spent a week at the beach recently and decided to do a "project" that would be naturally limited.
Images of the beach sand.

The project was limited by:
Time, I was only at the beach a week
Tide times, so the sun would be low enough to get decent shadows and contrast
People/crowds, I didn't want contend with too many people or footprints in my photos

I took two walks with my iPhone, and two walks with my "real" camera (A Canon EOS 6D Mk1 for those who might care).

Here are a half-dozen of the iPhone images.

Blue

Another phone photo from this afternoon

I like abstracts and photos that feature one color in various shades and brightness. I think of them sort of as _____ (fill in the color) and white.
This is "blue"

Thinking About Some Photography New Year Resolutions

This past week a couple short-sighted "outings" are causing me to consider some early resolutions for the New Year.
1. When at all practical, bring a tripod
2. When I think I might like to have it with me, bring my "real" camera.

The first photo could have been heaps better, if I just brought my tripod. Ironically the tripod was sitting less than 100 ft away, just inside my back door. I could have gotten optimal focus/depth of field and no camera shake, but no...lazy took hold. The other photos I took that morning weren't even in the least presentable.

The second photo is a case of:
"I know I'm going to be walking around, I ought to bring my camera...no, I won't see anything anyway and it's heavy and it's cold outside."
So now I'm stuck with what I can capture with an iPhone 11.

Butter, Lost in Translation

Churn the corn milk and get...Butter! I'm not guessing when I say it wouldn't pass my sister's taste test...the sign used to just say "Homemade Butter", but now they've come clean and defined exactly what they are churning here.
"Butter"???

Action Scenes From Car"cass" IX

Here are a couple of my cellphone shots from the scene. At this point the occupants of the vehicle on the right had been removed, and the fire was extinguished.

Never Too Far From Home

Apparently there is a market here in Kuwait for Kroger brand Worcestershire sauce....this figures to be about $2.30 for a 15 ounce bottle.

Look Ma...No Hands!

Without benefit of my computer, or photoshop...taken a few nights back when Elesa and I were walking near Šehidsko Mezarje Kovači (Martyr's Memorial Cemetery Kovači) up in the Vratnik section of Sarajevo.

Just re-sized from my "communicator" I'm beaming these up...

Discarded Paradise

Haven't been too good about posting lately...running into some troubles with my backup disk.

This is a cellphone shot I took on the way to work this morning. In addition to the new fountain, which still isn't complete, they started to repave the pathways in Veliki Park. They are progressing at a pretty good clip, more than half-way done in a little over a week. I've always known that some of the old Turkish "turban" tombstones were paved over during a previous pathway paving as I could see bits poking through the blacktop. I didn't realize it was so many though. During the latest paving effort, they have uncovered some (but not all) of the previously paved over markers to paradise. This is just one of the piles of uncovered tombstones from the Ottoman era (roughly 1450-1870's)

More Snow

It is dumping down snow tonight. Walking the dogs, it really didn't feel that cold. I took some more cell phone camera shots. I find it hard to hold steady to get a sharp photo.

At The Other End Of Madness

My "good" camera is a Canon EOS-5D. a model that came out 3 years ago. After 3 years, it is finally being replaced with the 5DII which should be available any day now. 3 years is a VERY long lifetime in the universe of DSLR cameras. Quite frankly, I don't need a 5DII (probably didn't need a 5D:) The limitations and any general suckiness of my photography can't be blamed on my camera as it is rarely, if ever, the weak link.

In the meantime, I have this new cell phone for work that has a camera. I've taken to messing with it while I walk the dogs at night. Below are a few of my creations. On one hand, they probably won't be mistaken for high art from a high end camera, but on the other, I find the camera and the results interesting...
