When Fall and Winter Collide

One nice thing about an early November snowfall is that the fall colors are still around. The white snow gives a nice contrast to the reds, yellows and oranges of autumn. This year we got such an early snowfall. My favorite "golden gingko" was just letting go of it's leaves. Pumpkins were still on porchsteps. Burning bushes were burning and flowers were still in bloom.

Great Smoky Mountains and the Tremont Institute

The Tremont Institute offers a variety of programs right in the Great Smoly Mountain National Park. Their "mission is to deliver experiential learning for youth, educators, and adults through programs that promote self-discovery, critical thinking, and effective teaching and leadership."

I've been there now three times for the photography workshops. They offer a "Springtime in the Smokies" workshop (generally a weekend around mid-April) and an "Autumn Brilliance" workshop near the end of October - beginning of November. Next year's dates are already set, April 11, 2025 - April 14, 2025 and October 31, 2025 - November 3, 2025, respectively. The workshops are a great chance to get away from it all, learn something about photography and have a good time with other like minded photographers.

This past year they added a Writers Conference which sounds really interesting. A 2025 conference has its dates set too. Check out their page to see if any of their programs are of interest to you.

Some of the trees in the neighborhood are getting "toasted" on top. Leaves are falling. Going to head out on a couple hikes in the coming week and I'm hoping to see some nice colors. Here's a couple shots, the first from last year and the second from 15 years ago (time flies).

A half-dozen photos from today.
I was working on the New Year resolutions with regards to photography.
- Got out, away from the house for a bit to the (Cincinnati Nature Center)
- Took, and more importantly USED! a tripod, and only forgot to turn off the IS for one set of shots
- Used a different lens for at least some of the shots, my Lensbaby "Composer" I originally received for Christmas 2010

Without my glasses or contacts, this is similar to how things look to me - just different colors depending on what I'm "looking" at.
