What is "Peak Color"?

with regards to the leaves changing color in the fall?

Different types of trees, different elevations etc etc all contribute to the "color".

By almost any measure, we were a couple weeks or so past "peak" this weekend when we were visiting the Hocking Hills area of Ohio. Almost all the deciduous trees were bare. Leaves clung to paw-paw here or there in a valley, or maybe an oak sheltered in some way from the wind and weather, but otherwise...

The exception were the beech! Along the hikes, I'd come across groves of beech trees and it was like entering a golden universe.

Rock Bridge was one vivid example.
