Like most of the last few summers, I've been very busy...but I've also been taking a lot more photos than in the past. Here is a hawk that landed on the porch of the beach house...a mere 20ft or so from me...and I still can't tell for sure what kind it is. Maybe a Cooper's Hawk?

Snow and Ice

Went out around the lake after last night's snow and ice...took a lot of photos but a couple were just fortuitous.

I was taking the below photo of a Black-crowned Night Heron that frequents the lake, when I must have startled the Great Blue Heron that also frequents that area. The Great Blue flew right up in front and away from me and I fired off a few shots, two that came out pretty good.

Along the Little Patuxent

Yes, I am still here. I expect to be blogging more in another couple months...

In the meantime, a few weeks back I wandered up the Savage Mill Trail. So short and flat it hardly qualifies as a hike, but I did take a few photos.

Fall - Patuxent North Tract

Went wandering a little bit at the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge, North Tract today while the weather still holds. I was hoping to check out some of the 10 or so old cemeteries on the grounds (good on-line book - HERE ) but apparently today is some kind of kids hunting day, so most of the area was closed to hikers. I assume it helps keep kids from mistaking people like me for deer or duck. So anyway, my theme for the day became "Red, the color of fall". Enjoy.

Castlerigg Stone Circle

From back in May, a visit to the Lake District in England. The setting for Castlerigg Stone Circle is on a hill top over looking the valleys below and the mountains in the background, just awesome first thing in the morning.
